Introduction to Animal Assisted Therapy
Your dog should be at least 11 months old, have lived in your house at least six months and should respond to basic obedience commands (sit, down, stay, etc.) and be able to walk on a loose lead. Handlers must be 18 or older to attend the class.
The course is not a basic obedience class. It includes instruction on hand signals, getting your dog to work for others, and an introduction to the games used in our therapy work to help improve/enhance verbal and motor skills.
This course is a requirement for membership in Rainbow Animal Assisted Therapy.
FEE for 6 hours of instruction:
$125 for one handler
$175 for two handlers
Pre-Registration is required.
At this time, it is not possible to register online.
Please print out and complete the registration form and either mail it and your proof of rabies to the address specified on the form, or email it to: dlh9127@comcast.net
You can either pay for the class online below, or you can mail a check payable to Rainbow Animal Assisted Therapy to the address specified on the form.
Please note that our classes will be conducted according to CDC guidelines. Six foot distances will be observed and masks are required. The site is disinfected before and after class, and hand sanitizer is available for frequent use.
More than 90% of Rainbow programs are conducted during weekday hours. The majority of these programs accommodate the special needs of children. Please note: there is additional training required (no additional fees) to work in a Rainbow hospital program.

Team Skills Practice Class
Team Skills is an additional learning opportunity for new teams and for students in our Intro class. Newer teams practice their therapy skills and learn new activities to motivate the participants we visit to reach their goals.
Experienced teams come to share skills and ideas, to continue learning, and to keep their dogs well socialized.
Sessions are held at our facility in Morton Grove.
Class size is limited to assure quality learning for all.
Registration for Team Skills is via Sign Up Genius.
